Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace. Ephesians 4:10
Deanne Smith has been steadfast in her commitment to the spiritual formation and academic success of Rock Solid students since 2016.
“God blessed me with a hunger for and love of His Word from my childhood,” she shares. “In this season of my life, I am seeing God bringing all of these things together to equip me for my current role at Rock Solid.”
Deanne has taught both high schoolers and middle schoolers in a variety of subjects, including English, world history, literature, and public speaking. She currently serves as the Academic Dean at RSCA, and teaches middle school English, Life Science, and Foundations. In 2020, she co-founded the Foundations Program with Kathi Curtis, a program to “intentionally and systematically disciple students and integrate discipleship, service learning, and academics.”
In addition to her role as a teacher, Deanne is no stranger to the homeschool aspect of the University Model (UM) here at Rock Solid. She homeschooled her three children for 14 years and has personally experienced the benefits of the UM model.
“It is the best of homeschool combined with the best of private Christian school. As a parent, I loved that it gave me more time with my daughter. As a teacher, I love building relationships with my students and having deep conversations about life and faith.”
During her time of homeschooling, Deanne was introduced to the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). Inspired by their philosophy and methodology, she started teaching writing in homeschool co-ops as well as in her home in 2011. She has always loved to read, and learned to share that passion with students by leading book clubs and teaching literature classes.
Outside of Rock Solid, Deanne enjoys spending time with family, going for long walks, having coffee with friends, crocheting, and, of course, reading.
We're grateful to Deanne for sharing the many gifts God has given her, and for her deep commitment to our Rockstar students and families!
